Introduction to Bohinj, vacation area on the sunny side of the Alps
With its lake and surroundings, Bohinj is one of those natural wonders with which Slovenia has been generously endowed. As our planet adorned itself with various decorations, right here it created a natural paradise. As you come to the edge of the lake, you can hear somewhere deep in your soul the magnificent symphony of nature. The enchanting song of this unspoilt wonder catches up your gaze. In Bohinj each season has its own delights. The gushing waters in spring, the irrepressible relaxation of the nature and people in summer, the magical play of the sun's colours in autumn and the white silence of winter - such is the very harmony which modern man so urgently desires. You need only hop up the nearest hill or row out into the middle of the lake to hear the murmuring of your enraptured soul. Here the beauty of the nature has that eternal quality, quietly gazing at itself in the smoothness of the lake. And then the visitor stops for a moment or two, and forgets about everything measurable, how much anything is worth - even what time is it. The natives of Bohinj are a particular kind of people. During their long sojourn in this natural paradise they have fallen completely in love with this piece of the earth. They measure time in seasons, and open their hearts wide enough to welcome visitors and share with them the beauties of this place - the mountain peaks, rare animals, fish in the lake, the sunrise and sunset, comfort and their healthy food. No-one could leave here with an empty heart, nor could one leave without wishing to return. Bohinj imprints itself deeply in the album of our memories. Apartment house Jager in Srednja vas, on the edge of Triglav National Park, is a great starting point for nature walks and mountain hikes. All apartments (except one) have a balcony, fully equiped kitchen and many modern appliances (direct phone, SAT TV, hair-driyer, microwave, storage for bikes and skis, shoe-heaters). There is a house bar in the apartment house. We organize various sports programmes and trips which include our own taxi service. The bus station is only 200 meters away, the railway station is in Bohinjska Bistrica, which is 6 kilometers away, as is ski resort Kobla. The nearest ski resort, Senožeta, is in our village and mountain ski resort Vogel is 7 kilometers away. There are two grocery stores in the village, two restaurants with slovene food and a great pizzeria. In winter Bohinj offers many different sports activities: ski centres »Senožeta«, »Kobla« and »Vogel«, cross-country skiing on Pokljuka high plateau (50 kilometers of tracks), skis and ski-equipment rent, ski-touring and ski school. During summer we can organize hydrospeed, kanyoning, kayak, rafting, paragliding, climbing, mountain-bike tours, hiking, fishing, tour guiding… You can also rent a horse and go cross-country riding on a nearby ranch or you can swim in Bohinj lake (the water temperature is up to 24°C), you can use several hotel swimming pools or visit aqua-park. The area offers unique variety of meadows with its flowers and herbs, whereas forests have an abundance of wild mushrooms. Or you can just simply go for a stroll and enjoy the nature. |
